IRL 101 - Financial Reality Fair In-Person

The Hurricane Creek Federal Credit Union Dollars & Decisions Financial Reality Fair is an interactive financial literacy experience designed to help students understand the real-world challenges of managing money as an adult. During the event, students are assigned a career, salary, and family situation, then visit a series of booths representing common monthly expenses such as housing, transportation, food, insurance, childcare, and entertainment.

As students work through their budgets, they quickly learn how everyday financial decisions impact their ability to live within their means. The experience encourages critical thinking, planning, and responsible decision-making while showing students the importance of saving, avoiding unnecessary debt, and preparing for unexpected expenses.

By turning financial education into a hands-on experience, the Dollars & Decisions Financial Reality Fair helps equip young people with the practical knowledge and confidence they need to make smarter financial choices as they move into adulthood.

All library programs are open to the public; however, some events will require reserving a seat (registration) in order to attend. Registration requires providing a name and email address. Programs that need you to sign up will clearly state "REGISTRATION REQUIRED" and will have information on how many seats are remaining. Registration for all library events is free. If seats are completely full, you may also request to be added to a waiting list.

Age Groups

Library programs are designed for separate age groups: Children (ages 0-10), Tweens (ages 10-12), Teen (ages 13-18) and Adult (ages 18+). Some events are marked for All Ages, or have a combination of age groups (ex: Tweens & Teens). Attendees are asked to attend only programs that fit their designated age group.
